Can it mean "what did you believe/ think"? And how exactly would you use it in a conversation properly? I'm trying to learn new words in Spanish, and I'm stuck on this one smile

You've got it right...just add an accent mark to make it the imperfect of "creer" = creías. - --Mariana--, Jul 12, 2012

Corrections in Spanish and English for Juancho (please don't forget that accent marks are required in Spanish!)---

Yep, it means "what did you think/believe" (well actually is more accurate to say that it means "what did you think / believe), an example of a conversation using "que creías" would be:

Person 1: You passed the test? (¿Pasaste el examen?) Person 2: Yes, what did you believe, that I would fail it? (Sí. ¿Que creías que lo iba a reprobar?) Person 1: Well, actually, yes. (Bueno, realmente, sí).

The accents, normally spanish and latin people don´t use them in Internet (because is easier and faster to leave them out), but you have a very important point, here in an educational site it becomes obligatory to use them.

As a tip, if anyone have problems with accents, and you have Microsoft Office (I don´t know if you can do the same with Open Office, but probably it have a similar function):

  1. Mark a text written in spanish.
  2. Go to menu tools.
  3. Go to language sub menu.
  4. Select "set language" option.
  5. Select International Spanish (español alfabeto internacional), and push accept button.

After that, word will highlight the ortographic problems in the text with a red underline, and grammar problems with a green underline.

PS(PD): Me hace recordar a mis clases de niño cuando para ver si una palabra llevaba acento o no, la enunciábamos en voz alta, y luego aplicábamos las clásicas reglas para palabras agudas, graves, esdrújulas y sobreesdrújulas (aunque hay mas reglas para casos especiales, como por ejemplo las famosas palabras compuestas, ciertas proposiciones y adverbios, o para las palabras que se usan en el caso de preguntas).

Mmm, pues no diría "normalmente". Conozco mucha gente que escriben correctamente, la cosa es no es raro que alguien no utiliza los acentos. ;-) - DJ_Huero, Jul 12, 2012
Jeje pero tampoco me gusta mucho la gramática... muchas cosas para recordar y no siempre es necesario para comunicar. - DJ_Huero, Jul 12, 2012
