Guess the English Idiom

Guess the English Idiom

After posting in today's phrasal verb thread I found myself writing the English idiom 'tongue in cheek' and it occurred to me that if you had never heard that idiom before it might be a bit tricky to work out what it means. In fact you could end up with some rather humorous ideas.

so .... I was thinking that it might be fun for non-native English speakers (who haven't heard of this idiom before) to post what they think it might mean.

Please don't investigate on the net or look it up as this would defeat the purpose and spoil the fun. smile

Idiom - tongue in cheek

What do you think it might mean?

If you have a good idea or think you may have heard it before perhaps let others try first smile

Pues, no sé lo que se usa en español para expresar "tongue-and-cheek," pero quizá uno podría decir "humor irónico" (muy literal). De todos modos ¡estoy ansioso por ver la respuesta! - ruiseñor, Jul 10, 2012

The meaning if anyone wondered is - not to be taken seriously, said in fun, as a joke etc.
