The Letters "O U G H"
I think this is an interesting fact for all the English speakers out there, but also for those Spanish who are learning English. It also goes to show the variety of our language which non English speakers find difficult to understand. The letters "ough" in English can be pronounced in eight different ways. Here is a short phrase that contains them all.
A mí me parece que este hecho es interesante no sólo para los ingleses sino los españoles también. Indica la variedad del idioma inglés que los principiantes de inglés encuentran difícil de entender. Véase más abajo una frase que contiene las letras, "ough" y que tiene los ocho sonidos diferentes.
A tOUGH, dOUGH- faced plOUGHman, thOUGHtfully strode thrOUGH the streets of scarborOUGH, cOUGHing and hiccOUGHing (can be pronounced hiccupping).
Edit:
See if you can come up with a sentence using one of the eight sounds above.
El objetivo, forma una frase que usa uno de los sonidos.

I thought that I ought to do something about the drought, but it's tough enough ploughing through the deed and paperwork I have on the rough terrain that I bought during last year's drought!
I made a bow from a bough , better than the bow I bought .
Me hace un arco de una rama, mejor que comprar un arco.
Corrected sentence,-Hago un arco de una rama.
My crop in the drought will come to nought , no doubt.
Mi cosecha en la sequía no servirán para nada , no hay duda.
Corrected sentence,-Será mejor que el que compré

Cuando un área no ha tenido lluvia durante mucho tiempo y la tierra está agrietada, se dice que el área está en una sequía.
When an area has not had rain for a long time and the ground is cracked, it is said that the area is in a drought. (drought)

Well, my first rough thought was that there seems to be no thoroughfare throughout the day for the choughs here.
Bueno , mi primero pensamiento aproximado fue que no hay ningún autovía durante el día para las aves de familia cuervo por aqui. Chough: PYRRHOCORAX PYRRHOCORAX Chova piquiroja .

My thoroughly greedy sow put her nose in the trough, looking for dough, and promptly caught a cough.
Mi cerda madre muy glotona puso su morro en el comedero para buscar pasta, pero pronto cogió una tos.
Really, I think enough is enough.
íBasta!
Although I don't have enough dough, I'll try to make it through this tough drought without coughing up my last penny or thoroughly ploughing up the remains of my already rough lawn.
(No, I don't have a translation ready yet, as I'm about to head out to one of my practice groups, but putting the first half up now will hopefully make me return later and go through the excercize)
Hasta luego.
Good post Eddy.

Every one of us gets through the tough times because somebody is there, standing in the gap to close it for us.
I was unaware of the British way of spelling "draft" till I tried the best beer in the world.

People used to say, If you are going to plOUGH the rOUGH field, in the midst of a downpour, you are going to catch a cOUGH. I used to snort and say, 'Well, unlike you, i am tOUGH!'
Pretty cheesy, i admit.....
Las personas solía decir, Si usted va a ARAR el campo ÁSPERO, en medio de un chaparrón, usted va a agarrar una TOS. Yo solía resoplar y decir, '¡Bien, a diferencia de usted, soy RESISTENTE!'
There are many boughs on a tree.
Hay muchas ramas en un árbol. (I'm not sure if this means the same in Spanish because I think a bough is bigger than a branch, and I couldn't find a Spanish word for bough. Does anyone know)

And here I thought English wasn't that rough. You've all come to thouroughly prove me wrong.
Don't cough in a trough ,
nor laugh in a loft ,
or bow on a bough ,
don't throw it through ,
but think through a thought
then knead your dough ,
if you need some dough
then plough and sow ,
if that's not enough that is tough !
