difference between tomar and tener?
please explain with examples.

There are too many difference to explain. You'll have to look up each word in the dictionary and read some examples.
Please post again if you have some specific questions regard either word or its usage.
As Castor says these verbs are used differently in Spanish and English. Essentially the translations are totally different. However, in England a waiter may ask "what are you having", whereas in Spain they would say "what are you taking".
Maybe you're thinking of having a drink. Such as in 'I'm having a beer' or 'Have a beer'.Then you can say in Spanish ' Tomo una cerveza' or ' Toma una cerveza' In this case both the English 'have' and the Spanish 'tomar / take' refer to the act of drinking.
