Ésta / Esta

Ésta / Esta

This (one) is very delicious for a cheap hot dog.

Ésta / Esta es muy deliciosa para una salchicha barata.

I think there should be "Ésta" but i saw this sentence written with "Esta".

Could you, please, tell me which one is correct? ("Ésta" or "Esta" in this sentence.)

Thank you very much.

Hola Margherite. I like the answers as well. Finally I understand why I do not need to use "Ésta" with accent mark. - iana01, Jul 1, 2012

esta - "this" before feminine nouns: esta manzana, esta mujer,...

ésta - "this" used as a pronoun to refer to a feminine noun: Mira ésta. Coma ésta.

  • but apparently since I think around 1998, the powers that be have deemed the accent unnecessary unless the meaning is ambiguous so esta is fine smile

Kiwi_Girl, thanks a lot. Your explanation really helped me and also the last sentence why the accent mark is not required in this case. Thanks a lot. :)) - iana01, Jul 1, 2012
My pleasure :) - Kiwi-Girl, Jul 1, 2012

The both mean the same thing (this), but as Kiwi says, you no longer need the accent mark.
