Piropos- We men frequently use them.

Piropos- We men frequently use them.

We say these to females when we cannot contain ourselves of our feelings and emotions caused by their beauty... Now there´s fine and grotesque ones, some are funny. Can you find the meaning of this plural word and try to translate the following examples? Can you add some more in Spanish?

No doubt women inspire us to be a little poetic or a little agrressive. What do you think? Is it only a male thing? How really do women like them? Do women also have the right to give men "piropos"? Opinen en español.

                ¡Buen dia!

¡Necesito practicar!

Eddy....please notice the smiley! grin I do have a sense of humour!

I appreciate all help with my language. Cheers!

Ayyyy piropos!!

Here are my thoughts...

Spanish-speaking men seems to be more comfortable with these "piropos" than English-speaking men. This gives them a distinct advantage in wooing English-speaking women.

These flowery statements of love may flow freely from the Spanish-speaking man's lips, be a part of a long tradition demonstrated in many Latin countries, but they are sweet and new to our female Anglo ears. No English-speaking man would ever say these things to us. We think, when we hear them that anyone who would say something so bold must mean it. For this reason, we are completely powerless to their magic.

This is why "Latin lovers" have a bad reputation among Anglos.

Women, if a man tells you these things, run, don't walk, in the opposite direction.

As long as they are sweet, I don't run. The one's I don't like are from the 'macho' Anglos like 'Nice buns baby!' or 'what a great set of....'. Of course you have to take into account the source, then run! :-) - 0095ca4c, Jun 27, 2012

This is an excellent thread. The Spanish is however well beyond my absolute beginner's level. I look forward to revisiting it, when I've both learned a bit more, and haven't already reached my daily saturation limit of 2 hours each of written and spoken practice, plus 2 margaritas.. Very interesting watching the dialogue though.

I love you so much , without your love I am as desolate as deserted birds nest filled

with snow , one kiss from those lovely lips and I am the man who will love you forever .

Could I but love you for one moment, then that moment would be an eternity .

I wrote this inspired in your picture,so then I decided not to lose my inspiration and thought about "piropos" and ended up putting up this post because of you.. Sorry if "piropos" are not for you but you made me think about them. You just put me in the mood!

Okay, I am from the United States, but I lived in the Dominican Republic for four months, and that was my first experience with “piropos.” After much reflection (I don’t wish to judge cultural practices unfairly), I believe that “piropos” are simply a manifestation of “machismo” and it reduces women to just a sexual object. Although not all “piropos” are unpleasant/grotesque, they change the way in which women think about themselves. I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoying hearing the “piropos” at times… Of course we all desire to be beautiful. But I started to think and behave differently and allowed for men to treat me with little respect. I know that many do not agree. This is only my opinion based on my own experiences.. the opinion of a “precious American”…of “the most flavorful fruit.. so beautiful” (these were “piropos” directed at me daily). I believe that a woman is worth much more than her appearance and if someone wants to say “piropos” everywhere she goes, they should be about her heart.
