So, with ''me crié" and "se crió" Is that considered a reflexive construction, or passive voice? I´m really not sure? .

It it more like?

´´ I was raised.´´ and ´´you were raised´´.

OR.

´´I raised myself´´ and ´´you raised yourself´´?

It seems to me that the constructions are reflexive. It is my understanding that the passive voice is only used in the third person with "se", not with an indirect object pronoun like "me".

Also, the reflexive "criarse" takes on a slightly different connotation, more like "to grow up". So "me crió" would be more like "I grew up".

Thanks, and Interesting. I'd never thought about passive voice only being 3rd person. What about a phrase such as "I was taught". That's passive in English because the subject is not only not stated, but not even implied. What would that be in Spanish? - rogspax, Jun 24, 2012
Also, the "to grow up" part makes sense, because the conversation was about where one lives, where one was originally from, and where they grew up, so your "I grew up" is probably the real sense of what I was hearing. THANKS! - rogspax, Jun 24, 2012

I am not a Spanish native. I think "I was raised" is both a reflexive and passive construction.
