Prometo a no molestarte tanto. Me comprometo a no molestarte tanto.

I promise not to bother you so much. (How are these sentences the same, but different?)

Funny, but I can only think of two ways to say this (without the infinitive), which I've listed below.

Let's wait for a native or advanced Spanish-speaker to tell us whether your original sentence is okay too.

1) Te prometo que no voy a molestarte tanto. OR 2) Te prometo que no te molestaré tanto.

The second version seems a bit formal and I have the same questions about using the infinitive here.

Me comprometo a no molestarte tanto. (I commit myself --taking on the promise---to not bothering you so much)

As Marianna has corrected, 1) Te prometo que no voy a molestarte tanto. OR 2) Te prometo que no te molestaré tanto.

Comprometerse are more formal than prometer, comprometerse are the kind of word used by the politicians, or if you had promised something but hadn't keep it, you can comprometerte to not do it again.
