Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Alberto consiguió un trabajo mediante un contacto de su padre.

Alberto got a job through one of his father's contacts.

2. En los tiempos de antes, la gente se comunicaban mediante cartas enviadas por correo.

In olden days, people would communicate by means of letters sent through the mail.

Idioms:

1. Dios mediante

God willing

I know you don't generate these, but for clarification, "gente" is singular, so it should be "la gente se comunicaba," right? - Jota8326, Jun 22, 2012
correct - i was about to poste the same comment - marineroloco, Jun 22, 2012
Or, se comunicaran, if you want to say would?? - annierats, Jun 22, 2012

- -cae-, Jun 22, 2012
CAE: Thanks a lot (for ruining my poetry :-) ). Noooo .... really thanks!! - mcl020, Jun 22, 2012

Algunas personas han enviado mensajes por medio del océano, lo cual parece muy romántico, pero en realidad no lo es porque no se puede predecir quién recibirá el mensaje ni donde llegará. Sin embargo, hay una excepción. Es posible que el que lo reciba empezará una relación con la que lo envió. ¿Pasa eso sólo en las películas?
