What is the difference between these two sentences? Is the translation same for both of them? Thanks!

Both expressions are very common, but both are incorrect.

In my opinion, when you use "encontrarse" the sentence becomes a little more poetic. I would say that using "encontrarse" in this way is found a lot more in writing, although I have heard and used it in conversation. The difference is very similar in English, it's like saying "I found myself sick" vs. "I was sick".

In my spanish test I switched these two verbs, I put ''estaba mal'' in the first sentence, and in the other ''me encontraba mala'' and it was incorrect. Why? Does it have something to do with ''mal/mala''? - Roofy, Jun 21, 2012
