I happen to know the meaning, and also a derived word, here's an example:

Sesgos explicitados no pueden ser objeto de tergiversación.

Espero que el acento no se preste para tergiversar la frase.

Our dictionary has this entry for tergiversar. In the example you give I would translate the sentence as, "No one likes to have their words and ideas twisted and manipulated." I.e. "That's not what I meant."
