decaer (deh-cah-err')

verb ( to decline, to get weaker, to wane )

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

  1. Las pequeñas empresas empezaron a decaer tras la llegada de las tiendas de departamento.

Small businesses began to decline after the arrival of department stores.

2. Su salud empezó a decaer cuando cumplió los ochenta años.

His health began to decline once he turned eighty.

"If our amour's been tempered in fire, would it wither in the sunshine? If our love's endured so much pain, could time and distance make it wane?" / "Si nuestro amor ha sido templado en el fuego, ¿se marchitaría al sol? Si nuestro amor ha aguantado tanta pena, ¿le harían decaer el tiempo y la distancia?" ( ? ? ? - què qiáo xian - Fairy on the Magpie Bridge - El Hada del Puente de Las Urracas ).

Cuando envejecemos nuestras capacidades mentales decaen. Decidí aprender un idioma estranjero porque leí un libro que explica como estimular el cerebro y mantenerlo sano. Aprender un idioma es un modo, ¡y también me gusta !

When we age our mental abilities decline. I decided to learn a foreign language because I read a book which explained how to stimulate the brain and keep it healthy. Learning a language is one way, and also I like it!
