This is a great link that explains this topic in better detail than I could do myself. SpanishDict Grammar Definite Article

Also take a look at this for uses of the articles. enter link description here

This should cover what you're looking for. There's also a quiz at the bottom of the page.

Hope this helps and don't forget to try the SpanishDict Spanish Grammar tab before asking broad questions like this next time. Often what you need is just a click away.

él/ella can be used as objects of a peposition when used as pronouns.

Persona 1: ¿Donde están mis llaves? Pensaba que las dejé encima de la mesa. Persona 2: Ay, no están encima de la mesa, pero están debajo de ella.

They are also Subject pronouns,

"Ella se cortó el dedo...."

Lo (los) and La (las) are direct object prepositions and replace direct objects.

Alguien sabe donde están mis llaves? Las busqué pero no las pude encontrar.

Si comprara un coche, no lo sabría conducir.

I don't understand what you mean by "This is a classic." Direct object pronouns can replace a direct object to make the sentece sound less redundant. http://studyspanish.com/lessons/dopro1.htm - BradyLabuda, Jun 19, 2012

Well first off, "el" and "los" are masculine and "La" is feminie. El is singular masculine and los is plural.

So i would say, "Los libros" because libros is masculine and pluaral. For singular i would say, "El libro es grande." Libro is a singular masculine noun so we say el. The same rule applies for "la" and "las".

El, Los, and La are all used for "the". El and Los are used before masculine words, el is singular while Los is plural (el hombre, los libros). La and its plural form Las are used before feminine words (la casa, Las papas).
