Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Tras terminar su último examen, Juan se fue a celebrar.

After finishing his last exam, Juan went out to celebrate.

2. Tras esta puerta encontrarán el comedor.

Behind this door you'll find the dining room.

Hola rac y caefuego, Thank you for working "behind the scenes" to bring us the word of the day. - Nilda-Ballardo, Jun 18, 2012
You are appreciated , the power is in you now and forever more. - ray76, Jun 18, 2012
Cae: some more examples would be appreciated. If you have time. Gracias de antemano. - annierats, Jun 18, 2012
I agree with annierats. I don't understand why some answers show "detrás" and not "tras". So now I am confused! - Nilda-Ballardo, Jun 18, 2012
Nilda: después de - after, following/ tras - behind, following/ detrás - back, behind, after, rear - rac1, Jun 19, 2012

¡No preste atención al hombre detrás de la cortina! ¡Yo soy el gran y poderoso Mago de Oz!

Do not pay attention to the man behind the curtain! I am the great and powerful Wizard of Oz!

De repente, los cachorros nacieron uno tras otro; todos los diez de ellos.

Suddenly, the puppies were born one after the other; all ten of them.

I am confused with how we are using tras and detrás in the word of the day. - Nilda-Ballardo, Jun 18, 2012
If you paint them they look like dalmatians. - miliard, Jun 18, 2012
Just "los diez.". That's it. So we know that they were ten. ;) - -cae-, Jun 18, 2012
You also might say "todos los diez". - -cae-, Jun 18, 2012
Gracias Caefuego! - Nilda-Ballardo, Jun 19, 2012

Algunos personajes se preocupan sobre cómo se ven detrás.

Some people are concerned about how they look behind.

What is hidden behind the four letters of the word "love"? One beautiful feeling.

- -cae-, Jun 18, 2012
Gracias, Caefuego. :))) - iana01, Jun 18, 2012
Well done! - miliard, Jun 18, 2012

Detrás de esta puerta encontrarás un conejo porque está buscando lo que está detrás de esta puerta. (No sé cómo utilizar estas palabras. -- tras, detrás, atrás, trasero ???) I'm changing it. I don't think I used it correctly.

Behind this door, you will find a rabbit because it's searching for what is behind this door.

I think detras looks right, I hope Cae will explain to us. I don't know either. - annierats, Jun 18, 2012
- -cae-, Jun 18, 2012
Yes, I thought I used "tras" incorrectly, so I switched it to "detrás". And you're right. The sentence is redundant, but I wanted it to be that way. :) - GraceM, Jun 19, 2012

First try: En vida es mejor mirar adelante más que detrás.

Correction: En la vida es mejor mirar hacia adelante que hacia atrás.

In life it is better to look before you more than behind.
