Assisted Living

I am retired and enroledl in Spanish at a local university. I have an oral exam tomorow and I have a hunch that the convesation might get aound to what I did esta fin de samana (o semana pasada) which was to visit my mother-in-law. Is there a commonly used Spanish term for a place for the housing and care of the elderly such as, what we call in American English, an "assisted living facility"?

Good question Kirk. My mom is 97 and lives in an Assisted Living Facility. Now I'll know how to say it in Spanish! - Nilda-Ballardo, Jun 17, 2012
I was discussing this just this last week. Thanks for asking. - katydew, Jun 17, 2012

In England we usually say Old Peoples' Homes and in Spain I've often heard 'hogar para ancianos'.

For the very elderly and those in need of more care we say ; nursing home' and in Spain I think clínica de reposo might work.

For the dying we use ' hospice' , in Spain these are 'hospicios', I think, anyway.

I hope this helps.
