Welcome to the practice section. It is an open forum.

Some professions do not change their spellings to accomadate gender.

It is the article which determines the gender.

For example: el dentista –o- la dentista.

Can you think of others? Give me your examples.

Don’t forget to write your examples in English and Spanishsmile.

The farrier. Not eligible for this hilo. Sorry, but we can keep it up out of interest. .

A farrier shoes horses, he/she does no other type of metalwork . Blacksmiths do other sorts of metal work.

I'm not sure about this one. I have a female farrier, is she a herradora? - annierats, Jun 17, 2012
I would think so , the word is describing a worker of metal , which is non generic. - ray76, Jun 17, 2012
Oh and a good one Annie . - ray76, Jun 17, 2012

- annierats, Jun 17, 2012
herradura, typo. He's shoeing the horse! We put the shoes on 'hot' in England. It smokes. - annierats, Jun 17, 2012
herrador,ra...pure blacksmith who also shoes horses...'el herrero' is a blacksmith who is also a farrier. Do they overlap? - viejito, Jun 17, 2012
Not in England. IN Spain they have few qualifications. In England it takes 7 years to become a registered farrier. - annierats, Jun 17, 2012
- annierats, Jun 18, 2012
