lesson 2.3 direct & indrect objects ?

I get the mechanics of the DO & IO, but there seemes to a disconect as to how the DO is introduced in the conversation. The example is "Juan gives the cake to Jaime" and when the grammar is applied we end up with "Juan se lo da" how is the DO first introduced? This may be a dumb question, but how does Juan get the cake? Can someone give me an example of how the cake might be introduced before Juan receives the cake?

Hey, Big95, welcome to the forum.

It would go something like this...

  • Who gave Jaime a cake? (¿Quién le da un pastel a Jaime?)

  • Juan gave it to him. (Juan se lo da.)

Does that help?
