"to register" and "to apply" in Spanish

¿Cómo se dice 'to apply' and 'to register' en español? Muchas veces uso estas palabras incorrectamente en español. Confuso inscribir con registrar. También confuso aplicar con solicitar o hacer una solicitud. Si pueden, ayúdenme, por favor. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Por ejemplo, ¿cómo se dice... Have you registered your children for school next year? and Did you apply for the job?

How do you say "to apply" and "to register" in Spanish? I often use these words incorrectly in Spanish. I confuse inscribir with registrar. I also confuse aplicar with solicitar or hacer una solicitud. Please help me, if you can. Thanks so much!

1.-Have you registered your children for school next year.

¿Has "matriculado" a tus hijos para el próximo año escolar?

2.- Did you apply for the job?

¿"Solicitaste" el empleo?

Each word depends on the context.I might help you in something else if you give me more sentences.

Thank you so much! I don't know why "matricular" never occurred to me! - robinflight, Jun 8, 2012

For registering in school, try "matricularse". smile

solicitar empleo : to apply for a job.

inscribirse como miembro de un foro .. register as member of a forum.

dedicarse a algo: to apply oneself to something..

These are the first things that come to my mind, I'm sure you will get lots more examples.

I hope they help!
