el cohete (el cohete)

noun ( rocket)

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. El cohete explotó segundos después de lanzar.

The rocket exploded seconds after launching.

2. Algunos de los fuegos artificiales parecían cohetes.

Some of the fireworks looked like rockets.

Not to be picky, but the 2nd sentence doesn't have the word "cohete" in it (?). I do like the sentence though, and it's good to know both terms!! - Jota8326, Jun 4, 2012
I don't make these sentences, I just post them. Thanks for pointing that out. I will make a change.:) - rac1, Jun 4, 2012

De niña, yo solía ir a un parque que tenía un tobogán en forma de cohete.

As a child, I used to go to a park that had a slide shaped like a rocket.

Que curiosa forma para un juego de parque. :) Y es más curioso que aún tengas fotos de tal tobogán. ^.^ - -cae-, Jun 4, 2012
Sería nada más "forma de cohete", por cierto. - -cae-, Jun 4, 2012
Thanks for the comments! It was a really great slide, and you could climb all the way to the top. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the one I played on. The one in this photo is extremely similar to it, though. - GraceM, Jun 5, 2012

("Cohete" is also slang for "drunken")

¡Válgame Dios! Estoy tan cohete que ni siquiera puedo mantenerme sentada. ¡Qué horror!

For God´s sake! I´m so drunken that I can´t even stay seated. How horrible!

Maybe, sometimes, I would like to have a rocket-propelled bicycle. It really has already been invented. I just wonder if it is not a bit dangerous.

It is possible that some children that play with rockets will become adults without fingers.

My brother-in-law is an engineer in aerodynamics at NASA. He is primarily involved with the dynamics of rocket propulsion.

Mi cuñado es un ingeniero en aerodinámica de la NASA. Él se dedica fundamentalmente a la dinámica de la propulsión de cohetes.

Hay una buena razón por la qué le llaman "El Cohete". Es por su rápido estilo de juego.

There's a good reason they call him "The Rocket". It's because of his fast playing style.
