Thank you for your kindness and posts on my congrat thread

Question

As I have no other way to thank everybody, I will do it in a separate thread on this board.

I have had the pleasure to be on this site for over four years, and nobody is even close to my rep point account. I have been working for free and I have had great pleasure in doing so. I have helped Christopher and Paralee in all I could, improving the site in all ways possible. I never knew anybody else, and I never ever had a problem with the staff.

I have had the pleasure to work with wonderful "colleagues" like Guillermo, Mountaingirl, Yesero (gary), Izanoni. I have been lucky to make friends with lots of people, as one can see on my congrat thread and on my thread saying good-bye to this forum.

I am impressed that my legacy still continues on the site. And I am happy to have helped so many people.

However, as I have read yet another note by Martha to another member, very insulting and corrosive, as usual, and as this person has made this forum what it is now, the time has come for me to make it really difficult for the site to take advantage of my work.

I hope you will be joining us on this site. Nobody will ever insult you there

There should be, and I believe there is. room for all the learning sites on the internet, including Spanish Help. If it is really about the language then links should be allowed to all resources, instead of the petty removal of links as happens here. - MaryMcc, May 30, 2012

You'll be happy to know that, a few days ago, I handled my first translation for a medical doctor during a physical exam with a patient. I have studied Spanish now for eight years, but I doubt I could have developed to this point without the help of the people on this forum for the past few years.

I am very busy now (my mother is sick and my oldest son is getting married next month). I was supposed to go to Mexico last week, but the trip didn't work out. Maybe next time.

I study and practice my Spanish every day and I miss everyone on this site. I hope to be able to contribute to the forum in time.

"I have never been interested in politics at any level - including those here at SD. I still don't understand completely what happened between Heidita and the managers of this site, but to have closed a simple congratulatory thread for her, even before she had a chance to respond to all of the posts, is just plain cruel. The mission of the new management here has become quite petty."

In addition, this business of disallowing site links is just a personal vendeta, nothing more. My good friend, KiwiGirl, posts links to her site all the time, but she´s is not on the SD sh{{ list yet.

Well, I only use SD for the dictionary now because the quality of the forum has severely diminished. And I can't help but to think that it's because of bad management and the quality of the moderators. Allow me to explain.

I am not one of Heidita's minions and I will be the first to say that their new site is horrible. To be blunt, it's garbage. I have been an SD user for YEARS. Heidita deleted my original account because of a spat over gay marriage years ago. Remember that guys? Does the name Tombourgeois ring a bell?

Well, here we are now and it's so clear to me that having people like Lazarus, Heidita, and a few others around was priceless for those learning Spanish.

For the life of me I can't understand why the moderators are all English speakers with low to intermediate levels of Spanish. I mean, no one considered making farallon or cordobesa a moderator? The only mods we have now are what I like to call, "Welcome-to-the-forum moderators." That's all they're good for.

Listen, booting Heidita and company I can understand. Maybe she had a false sense of ownership and she needed to be given a reality check... I'm not here to question those decisions. I am here to voice my opinion and highlight how the regular users have been ignored.

SD has returned to its default state: A few tight-knit, elitist users running the show. We, the regular users, were ignored. The only difference this time is that those running the show have sub-par language skills. We lost the chat room because of a couple of bad apples and Martha's decision to let them ruin it for us all. We pleaded with you Martha, but you ignored us. All you said was, "We are working hard to bring the chat function back." Well, now we know that was just something you said to get us off your back.

Anyway, I'm over the chat. We have our own chat with ALL the same users except the bad apples and we have gone without incident. Everyone gets along fine. I tried to explain this to the admins but I was met with curt and bitter responses.

In any case, it's not important anymore. The chat doesn't exist and the forum has become a feckless wasteland of congratulatory comments and scavengers looking for reputation points.

But hey, welcome to the forum!

It would have been nice to have been around during this so called 'golden era' of SD... but the learning has never stopped. I think that sometimes people have to leave situations that aren't positive. This is really sad because... I have no idea what happened, but she obviously liked helping on the site, but something obviously went wrong. It would have been nice to see it a bit more cordially terminated. Now her profile is deleted (I believe she deleted it), and it's really all quite unfortunate. The learning enviroment should always be about enjoying the pursuit of knowledge, and enjoying the act of helping eachother. 200k rep points = helping ...but this, not so much. Why? I don't know... but it's really unfortunate. I like all the help I can get with my studies, and apparently the top ranked helper (rep points wise) is gone... but I guess she's been gone.

Well, goodluck to all. I also hope the returns chat soon. By the way. It's a great loss for the learning process. Hope it's back... like... very soon. This week soon, jaja.
