Today write sentences with "break away"

Hello everyone. I think phrasal verbs are one of the most difficult to many English learners because most of them do not have a literal translation. So I have decided to learn one or two phrasal verbs every day. And I know you can help me with that, but you also need to learn Spanish, so please write the sentence in English using the PV then try it in Spanish. Then I will correct your sentence (the Spanish sentence, of course); we will help each other out. Today write sentences with "break away".

Me encanta la película, Secretariat, porque el caballo se separó del retador, nunca perdió la ventaja, y ganó la carrera de Belmont y The Triple Crown.

I love the movie, Secretariat, because the horse broke away from the challenger, never lost the lead, and won the Belmont race and the Triple Crown.

Might be better to write 'a sheep' - sinsonte, May 28, 2012
Hi Julis. - luisssito, May 28, 2012
Thanks sinsonte! - Juliss, May 28, 2012
Hi Luisito, what's up? :D - Juliss, May 28, 2012
Here for a while .what about you? - luisssito, May 28, 2012
Same here. I was checking some lessons on the net and listening to music, but now I'm hungry, so I'll go to dinner :) - Juliss, May 28, 2012
Generally, sheep are in a group, especially if there is a guard dog. The use of "the sheep" would indicate this. - bandit51jd, May 28, 2012
Also, "when they heard" would indicate "the sheep" is plural. - bandit51jd, May 28, 2012
Thanks bandit. I've just noticed that sheep is singular and also plural. Now I get why my sentence is confusing. So in this case, if I mean one of the sheep broke away I must use "a sheep" or "one sheep"? - Juliss, May 28, 2012
That's right Juliss. A sheep or one sheep makes it clear you are only talking about one sheep, but you'd need to say "...when it heard a.... Since The sheep broke away is in the past, it would sound better to say, "away after hearing..." - katydew, May 28, 2012
Thanks katy =) I get it now and I will correct my sentence now :D. - Juliss, May 29, 2012
I'm not sure about everyone else Juliss but to me the tenses seem a little uneven - try - the sheep broke away when they heard ..... - Kiwi-Girl, May 29, 2012
But if I mean one of the sheep? (in singular) :( - Juliss, May 29, 2012
