Sólo he aprendido a que ' pomegranaté significa ' granadá en español...Que es un lugar en el sur de España. ¿Conoces los pueblos o ciudades que son nombradas de comida o bebida? I have just learned that 'pomegranate' means 'granada' in Spanish... a place in southern Spain. Do you know any towns or cities named after food or drink? enter image description here

Berliner. A sort of pastry. I believe that according to myth JFK mistakenly called himself 'ein Berliner' . This could be a kind of doughnut, or a male inhabitant of Berlin. Quite a few French beverages an cheeses are named after their place or region of origin, such as camembert, armagnac, calvados, champagne. Odly enough, the village Champagne is not allowed to call its wines 'champagne'. And for Annie, I believe there is something like Richmond cakes, to be quite exact, 'Richmond maids of honour'. wink

Wesh cakes

. These break your teeth.

This comment must be flagged as an insult to Welsh people and I won't bother to put a picture of broken teeth.

I have a degree from Aberystwyth so I will actually be able to prove my point. ( Dentist bills..)

Salami comes from the Italian town of Prado, I believe, and is usually made from the meat of donkeys or mules. It is a very dry and shrivelled sausage. Quite tasty.

Salami is donkey spelled badly, asino, in Italian. I'm adding this for information, obviously there is an Iberian equivalent, but this is not allowed to be called salami because it doesn't come from Prado.. It is caled chorizo and is a very similar shrivelled sausage.

Experts on sausages can tell a salami from a chorizo.

Pils or Pilsner is named after the Czech city Pilsen. And Orval and Westvleteren after the abbeys in the places with the same name. I'm not quite sure about Carlsberg.;) - Castor77, Jun 5, 2012

Alaska is not a continent, it is located in the northwest portion of the North American continent. Alaska actually comes from a Russian word, meaning "mainland". The term "Baked Alaska" was not coined until 1876. - Esteban3304, May 30, 2012
You're right, it's the Antarctic that's a continent.. But I still believe in baked Alaska, it was found in a volcanic natural oven..By the eskimos! So there!! - annierats, May 30, 2012

Aunque ahora se llaman "las islas de Hawaii," esas islas se llamaban "las islas de bocadillo." No estoy segura, pero pienso que el nombre viejo de las islas y la nombre de la comida vienen del nombre de un hombre importante de Inglaterra. Although they are now called "the Hawaiian islands," those islands used to be called "the sandwhich islands." I'm not sure, but I think that the old name of the islands and the name of the food come from the name of an important British person (does the Earl of Sandwhich ring any bells, or did I completely make all of this stuff up?).

Hamburgo, Alemania - hamburguesa

Hamburg, Germany - hamburger; there can't be ham there, contrary to popular belief.

Lima, Peru. Lima means lime so the capital of Peru is "Lime". I've always found that kind of interesting to have your capital named after a fruit!
