el/la turista (too-rree'-stah)

noun ( tourist, traveler, sightseer )

Link: instructions post picture

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Los turistas tienen que viajar a Machu Picchu por un tren diferente.

Tourists have to ride a different train to Machu Picchu.

2. Tenemos billetes para la clase turista.

We have economy class tickets.

Notes: This noun can be masculine or feminine.

Para llegar a nuestro hotel en Venecia, todos los turistas tuvieron que tomar un barco que se parecía a un autobús. En nuestro viaje al hotel, tomé una foto de un barco utilizado por la policía para transportar los presos a la penitenciaría. No es la foto habitual tomada por los turistas en Venecia.

To get to our hotel in Venice, all the tourists had to take a boat that resembled a bus. On our trip to the hotel, I took a picture of a boat used by the police to transport the prisoners to the penitentiary. It´s not the usual picture taken by tourists in Venice.

Typo: "Venecia", "... tuvieron que tomar..."". Muy buen trabajo... y curiosa foto. Todos los países tienen problemas con el crimen, aunque en el caso de Venecia es curioso el vehículo usado por la Policía, sin duda. - -cae-, May 26, 2012
