what is un fantoche? I know it refers to a person but how could you describe it?

We use this word to refer to an outlandish person. It's a despective word.

Similar expressions could be:

¡Es un payaso! (bad way of wearing or to refer to a stupid person)

¡Es un fantasma! (people who brag about their lifes, good jobs, expensive cars...)

But take care with these expressions because are offesive at all

In slang Fantoche is puppet, presumptuous or ridiculous person. Ese tio es un fantoche, se cree gran cosa -That young guy is so stuck-up, he thinks he's hot stuff.

Fantasma, fantasmón, fantasmona (ghost) rel. persons: hypocritical, artificial. Deja de aparentar tener lo que no tienes. No te hagas más el fantasma/No seas fantasmón. -Stop pretending you have things when you don't. Don't be so hypocritical.
