I am currently writing my second book, and I need some names. Please give me suggestions, and if you know the meaning of the name, please tell me that as well.(For example, one of my characters, who is a soldier, is named Sitnah, which means opposition.) Thanks! Gracias! Danke!

Keep me posted on the status of that book! =] - DJ_Huero, May 25, 2012
OK. I don't know if any publisher will accept it, but maybe they will. It won't be done for a long time though. A book takes a long time, and this is a novel. - 0066cfd7, May 25, 2012
whats the book called? - maria-wayno, May 31, 2012

Well, I always thought Hope (female) was such a sweet and encouraging name as far as English. As far as Spanish, Araceli is another female name that is really pretty and it means, "heavenly altar". Just some female name ideas if you need. smile

never heard of "Araceli" before but it sound phenomenal and its meaning is gorgeous! - Machri, May 24, 2012
Thanks DJ! I'll remember these. I just might use Aracelli for my lead character, probably for when it is ready to be published. - 0066cfd7, May 24, 2012
Remember, one L though... Araceli. =] And yes, it's a beautiful name. Keep me posted on the book. ;-) - DJ_Huero, May 24, 2012
Hmm, the question was about names from your home country, and Araceli is a Spanish name... althought this is a mixed bag country... but then again.... there are no limits to the name game if it doesn't matter the actual origin. I don't know, jaja. The end - sinsonte, May 24, 2012
Well, we'll play specifics... I have Spaniard family, so I think that wins me permission to mention on behalf of their representation. Most of my family, including I, are in fact here in the US so that's where toss in Hope the American name.... - DJ_Huero, May 24, 2012
and we'll go bonus round and mention my soon to be wife is from Mexico and "Araceli" was a name we had considered but have chosen to go with "Aixa" when we do have children because we want a girl. - DJ_Huero, May 24, 2012
You should research about us down here en Southern Texas (where I am) es practically Mexico anyways, and us Americans can't seem to decide on a official language because we're so diverse anyways. We got all kinds of stuff popping out. ;-P - DJ_Huero, May 24, 2012
lol. You think you're south?:) - 0066cfd7, May 25, 2012
That's what I love about America... The title of my book is most likely going to be "To Sing of Freedom" as it is a sci-fi/fantasy book about a girl who rises from slavery to be a renowned warrior fighting for justice. - 0066cfd7, Jun 5, 2012

I'm from Germany, we do have some very oldfashioned names, if you like those best.

My grandma's have been called "Leopoldine" and "Frieda", my grandpa's "Willibald" and "Gustav". Usually, Germans don't really care about the meaning of a name, only some refer to a certain meaning, like "Frieda" is related to "Frieden" which means peace.

A lot of German names are related to the Bible as well, did you look some names up there?

Most names used with a specific meaning in Germany have Latin roots, e.g. "Pius" (the innocent) or for a woman it would be "Pia".

If you'd tell me in which direction the meaning should go, like, powerful, innocent, lovely etc I could be more specific with bringing up names...

I actually got Sitnah from the Bible... I got about 99 percent of the names so far for my story from there. I need lovely, warrior(good and bad) and just about anything inbetween! Danke! - 0066cfd7, May 24, 2012
I will think about it tomorrow and come back to you then - Machri, May 24, 2012

My grandmother's name was Vendela. It's rare and oldfashioned Swedish name.

Please note, I don't think my great grandparents spoke any Spanish, if they had, they might have avoided it.

El nombre de mi bisabuela era Vendela . Es un nombre sueco, muy raro y fuera de moda. Creo que mis bisabuelos no eran hispanohablantes, si hablarían español posiblemente no hubieron escogido este nombre por su hija.
