Hey I recently moved to Texas and there are a lot of foreign folk, especially Hispanics. Apart from needing to learn more Spanish, I've always wondered how a person in another country would say your name in a different language. Is it the same? With an accent? Or different for some names? Or just completely different all together?

A name is a proper noun... meaning... your name is your name. Aside for pronunciation differences that are natural to that person... they would have the idea of pronouncing your name... as you were named. The same way as an angloparlante will pronounce 'Jesús' instead of Jesus.

The Hispanics are not foreigners in Texas. They were there long before their land was extorted from Mexico by the US government. If anyone is a foreigner there, it's the white folks.

True. Solid history lesson. - sinsonte, May 23, 2012
Absolutely. In fact, most of the US Southwest was part of Mexico at one time. So in fact, the other people (besides Mexican folks) are historically speaking, the foreigners there. But interesting question, JMoody. - PumpkinCalabaza, May 23, 2012
Well actually, it's not so true. Spanish comes from Spain not the Americas, and Native Americans aren't hispanics... althought Mexicans are. The term Mexican was coined to describe the new culture of Native + Spanish (Europeans) - sinsonte, May 23, 2012
You´re right about native Americans, however, "Mexican" comes from the tribe "Mejica" which were in Mexico with the Aztecs, Toltecas, Chichimecas, and Nauhuatl - 005faa61, May 30, 2012
