Nickname For A Baby Girl

Hi all, I am needing some help.

A friend of mine who is from Venezuela has had a baby girl yesterday. I am now trying to find a nickname for her. But I would like to use a spanish word or name. The babies name is Ciara and she is absolutely gorgeous with lots of dark hair and dark eyes. If anyone can help me with some Spanish words or names that I as an Aunty/ Tía can call her? All i know is Bonita.... All your help is greatly appreciated. smile

Shortened versions of Spanish names are given to children using their first and middle name. If you know her middle name, then both names might work together to form the shorter version of what we sometimes call a nickname. For example,

Maria Isabel = Maribel, Mabel, Marisabel, Marisa

José Luis = Joselo, Joselu, Pepelu

You said she is a beautiful baby. What if we use the word "pretty" = "linda", and "face" = cara which is close to her first name.

Cara Linda = Caralinda, Caralin, Caralyn, Caralen.

Using her first name Ciara + linda = Ciaralinda, Ciaralin, Ciaralyn, Ciaralen.

Using her first name only: Ciarita, Carita

It's so sweet of you to try to find an endearing name for Ciara. I wish you luck. I also pray God's blessing on the mother and on Ciara.

Hi Nilda, what a great idea. Her name is Ciara Nicole. If you could come up with something for that I'd really like to hear what you can create. x - HalleBerry, May 17, 2012
Hi Halle. Here's a few to get you started. Ciara + Nicole = Ciarni, Ciarnita, Ciarnica, Ciarnico, Ciaranica. Play with the names and I'm sure you will find one of your own - Nilda-Ballardo, May 18, 2012

Many times nicknames are just made up from the real name. In this case of "Ciara" one could use "Ciris," or "Cichi," "Ciarninos," etc.

"Cariño" is like "honey" or "sweetie" or "dear."

"Mi amor" is also common, literally "my love," but my friend uses it with her 4 year old son all the time.

You could always use niña, which means little girl.

My hermanita was called "Cuquita" by my parents growing up and I think this is a nice nickname.

These nicknames come to my mind: Ciarita, Ciari, pechocha (preciosa), gordita, chiquita. Felicidades por la llegada de la bebé smile
