Sunrise sounds like it should be sunset.
Why does salida del sol mean sunrise? To me it sounds like "salida" means "exit" of the sun. Shouldn't that be sunset??? Confudido!

The way I look at it:
Salida del sol = it's coming out of its hiding place, making its debut.
Puesta del sol = it's getting put away into its place for the night.
If you think about it, it could be confusing if you are not a native speaker. Salir as a noun could be used as a synonymy of start (a race), departure (of a plane), exit or way out and yes, rising (as the sun) among several others. So salida del sol is sunrise and sunset is la puesta del sol.
Take it as it is.Maybe in past what they meant was the light left the darkness. for sunset is la puesta del sol
for sunrise use la salida del sol.
