When we talk about ser why do we use es? Same as in english you talk about "TO BE" and you use "IS". Ser is the infinitive (TO BE) and IS is the present, singular, third person: "ella es, el es". But this is "de primero".

Welcome to the forum. First, please fill out the information on your profile page. It will really help in answering your questions if we know if you a fluent in English or Spanish, your general location, and your proficiency level.

That being said, you willl find in your Spanish studies that the verb structure is much more complex than in English. We are used to seing very little variation in verbs. In Spanish, you find a much more detailed set of conjugations.

A good place to start is the video lessons in the learning tab. They will answer basic questions like this. Good luck in your studies!
