Shouldn't it be "al Papa"?

In the example sentence Mi abuela siempre quería viajar a Italia para ver el Papa.
Shouldn't it be al Papa since Papa is the object of the verb ver?
This is one of the hardest things for me to remember in Spanish and I know that you don't use a after tener. Is ver another verb that does not use aafter it?

It should be "al papa", but not because of "ver", but because it is a specific person.
