Vote people when they have posted a question

Question

I think we should acknowledge others when they have thought about a question and put it up on here and when people have answered a question by voting them. Obviously if the question is appropriate , this is not only encouraging but makes us more motivated in learning and is also showing support from fellow members which helps boosts people confidence in learning. Also we all have something in common being members on SD and it can be a great way making friends with a common interest learning Spanish and English.

I agree!

It's nice to encourage SD members to participate in the forum. It's us, the members, who make this a friendly, warm place where others are welcomed to ask questions.

I remember that it took a lot courage for me to post my first questions (for fear of looking foolish) and I was greatly supported and made many friends in the process.

Beat you to it. I've been on a mission to vote up people, not even necessarily 'just because' but for good efforts. I've seen people give great responses with no votes, and I'm just dumbfounded, haha.

I also give thumbs up for seeing questions that I've asked myself before... or for questions from new users often. I thought the same as you robd, I just didn't want to make a thread about it, haha. I've been on a solo mission. - sinsonte, May 11, 2012

There have been times when I have not had a vote on an answer for an entire day. I don't know why people stopped voting. Maybe it is because of so many new members and the absence of old members. However, this is the way that this site is supposed to work. If you agree with someone, vote for them, whether it be a question or an answer!

Good on you mate you have my vote on this one , for some strange reason

the habit of voting each other up and leaving encouraging remarks seams

to have stopped , such a pity because it creates such a warm feeling amongst

members to see their pears voting them up. On " drop one take one" we have a

tradition of always voting for the post below our own , this keeps the flow and we

have become a very friendly little family of like minded crackpots . So please

keep those votes coming and always vote for the one who has taken the time

and effort to open a thread , they need your encouragement because it takes a lot

of energy time and thought to open a thread for us all to enjoy and learn from .

Thank you to all those fantastic people who have devoted their time to correct our

Spanish sentences ,especially mine which are often in such a parlous state I wonder that they do not die of laughter , if not despair .

I, for one, am against voting for several reasons that I will outline more or less.

1. It encourages "friends" to "gang up" on others.

2. Misleads everybody into thinking that the more points you have "the more you know"

There are other reasons but these two will do, for the moment.

I am for a system that will allow a notation to acknowledge or agree with a poster as long as it isn't accumulative, else it would "smell" like points too!

I thought I would bump this up. Points are not the sole reason for contributing here but they are nice to receive.

I posted a question today that has 10 responses from 8 different people, meaning that eight people found it interesting enough to take the time to respond to the question. Yet that question has received only two votes. So why is it worthy of answering but not voting? I have noticed a trend recently to far fewer votes, not only to my posts but to other interesting posts and answers as well.

I gave a vote to everyone who responded to my question, which I do with every one of my questions and which I will continue to do.

Just my two cents worth.

I have wanted to post something similar to this. Thank you! I like that you indicate effort deserves to be recognized.

Many members realize this is a self-help site. So when they do ask a question, it's important to take the time to give them a vote because they have sometimes worked very hard to get to the question. It´s also important to recognize the effort of the answerer; especially if learning is accomplished. Remember, learning can be a tiny step or a leap across a chasm.

We have Rac1, Caefuego, Tosh, and Cordobesa who's effort to do the games each and every day is outstanding. If they are sick they make the effort and are responsible to see the post is taken care of by another member. They, too, need to be encouraged.

Votes are like smiles. Give them and you will get them!

Tenemos Rac1, Caefuego, Tosh, y Cordobesa. Su esfuerzo por hacer los juegos cada día es excepcional. Si se enferman, hacen el esfuerzo y son responsables para ver el mensaje es atendido por otro miembro. Ellos, también, necesitan ser estimulados.
