What does "ponerse la pila" mean?

I was having a Spanish conversation yesterday at the school where I work with a mom and her son. The mom was trying to motivate her son and was talking about the importance of working hard and making good decisions. At one point she said, "Pónte la pila." As it was in the middle of a longer conversation, I didn't stop her to ask what it meant. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

It means "Put the batteries on yourself."
In English, we might say, :"Turn the juice on," "Get fired up," or "Light a fire under yourself."
It either case, it means to get juiced up and motivated.

I looked up the word "pila" in the dictionary on SD. It showed "ponerse las pilas" = to get one's act together
