I do it too

I do it too

Hi all,

I´m trying to figure out how to talk about something that I assist with professionally, but also explain that I engage in the activity too.

To give a concrete example (and a real one, since it is my work AND hobby) I want to say something like

I run a race team, and tune for racers, and race myself too.

Something like -

Tiene una equipo de carreras, y ajustar la suspensión por los corredors (o pilotos) y a mí corro también. ???

Note, if it matters, it´s all involving motorcycle-racing. I know there has to be a better way to express this, but that´s my best first guess as a beginner.

I´d appreciate any help, suggestions, or improvements.

thanks roger

Hi. Here's my attempt:

Tengo un equipo de carreras y les afino la suspensión a los corredors (o pilotos) y compito también.

I think "ajusto" could work as well or "pongo a punto". Hope this helps.

Compito is actually better than corro. Good choice. - francobollo, May 8, 2012
I think if you wanted to had the "myself" emphasis, you could use: ...yo mismo compito también... - Goldie_Miel, May 8, 2012
Thanks, francobollo :) - Goldie_Miel, May 8, 2012
Oops, I meant "If you wanted to add*..." - Goldie_Miel, May 8, 2012
Un equipo... and no comma needed before y (unlike English, conjunctions normally do not require commas in Spanish) - francobollo, May 8, 2012
Oh, shucks. You're completely right. Not sure how I missed that "una".... - Goldie_Miel, May 9, 2012
Thanks :) - Goldie_Miel, May 9, 2012
I´m not sure how I missed the una part either, but thanks to both of you. And thanks for the comments on commas. Now that I think of it, we´ve covered precious little on punctuation, other than the paired questions marks, and capitalization. Thanks! - rogspax, May 9, 2012
Oh, and not that I don´t like or won´t use your ideas, but in the spirit of thinking and practicing, I¨m always trying to put things in my own words, to the extent possible with my still-limited vocabulary. As such ... - rogspax, May 9, 2012
... could I have said (as far as emphasizing my activity goes) something like ¨y también lo hago por mi mismo¨ or something close to that? - rogspax, May 9, 2012
Oh, no offense taken. I myself like to find other forms of saying things. In regards to your last question, I'm not really sure. I still have yet to fully conquer the whole "mismo" thing and it's usage. - Goldie_Miel, May 14, 2012
However, based on some examples I've found via Google, it seems "lo hago por mí (mismo)" translates more closely to "I do it for myself (and not for you)", but I not 100% positive. - Goldie_Miel, May 14, 2012

Hey Roger,

You're on the right track. I would rephrase it as: "Tengo un equipo de carreras, entono los carros de los corredores y también corro en la carrera".

Thanks, though I don´t understand entono. And I assume I could substitute Motos for Carros??? Thanks! - rogspax, May 9, 2012
¨On the right track¨ Ha Ha, I just now got that. Thanks! - rogspax, May 9, 2012
