el rebelde (rreh-bel'-deh)

noun ( rebel; defaulter )

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen!

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Mi tío era un rebelde contra la dictadura en su patria.

My uncle was a rebel against the dictatorship in his home country.

2. No permitimos a rebeldes que compren coches aquí.

We don't allow defaulters to buy cars here.

Ser un rebelde. Usar la puntuación y la gramática correcta.

Be a rebel. Use correct grammar. (If my Spanish grammar is incorrect, this will be an ironic post.) smile

"Cuando estaba en mora en mi préstamos quería rebelarme contra todo". I think that "default" means "en mora" (not paying) in this case, this expression is new for me as I am an English learner yet. - -cae-, May 7, 2012
Cae- It is very normal to say that a person "is in default" when a bank begins a foreclosure. Since this is new to me in Spanish, I can't relate the two. - Noetol, May 7, 2012
Hola Noetol :) - iana01, May 7, 2012
Hola, Iana! - Noetol, May 7, 2012
In Spanish we have two different expressions: "en mora" (to owe a fee) and "en cesación de pagos" (not paying permantly or in a long term). The dictionary says that defaul means "en cesación de pagos" - -cae-, May 8, 2012

Algunos niños son rebeldes a una edad temprana, y si ellos no aprenden a respetar y temer la autoridad a la edad de dos años, pueden tener graves problemas por delante.

Some children are rebels from an early age, and if they don't learn to respect and fear the authority by the age of two years, may have major problems ahead.
