Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen!

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Como no podía hablar árabe, no entendía nada.

As I couldn't speak Arabic, I didn't understand anything.

2. Como no comas toda la cena, no recibirás el postre.

If you don't eat all your dinner, you won't get any dessert.

As you can see, this is a family of three; the father, the mother, and the little baby boy that doesn't like to sleep by himself.

Como puede ver, esta es una familia de tres; el padre, la madre y el niño pequeño al que no le gusta dormir solo.

¿Cómo debería comer esto? Podría guardar un poco para más tarde o comer todo ahora.

How should I eat this? I could save some for later or eat it all now.

Mi hermano se comió toda la comida. Le pregunté ¿Cómo te hás comido toda esta cantidad de comida? Su respuesta fue "mi hambre era tan feroz como un león. ¡Necesitó comer mucho!"

My brother ate all the food. I asked him "How have you eaten this much food?". His reply was " my hunger was as fierce as a lion. I need to eat a lot!

As my mother always says, "eat your vegetables because they are good for you."

I like you, as a friend. Terrible words when they are said by that special person, perfect compliment when they are said by everyone else.

Me gustas como amigo/amiga. Terribles palabras cuando son dichas por esa persona especial, el cumplido perfefcto cuando son dichas por todos los demás.

¡Cerca! Pero... es... "No es lo que parece". En este caso, es cierto, se está usando la forma impersonal, pero como "no existe exactamente un pronombre impersonal" en tercera persona, no se escribe ni se dice. - -cae-, May 6, 2012
Gracias , Cae. - iana01, May 6, 2012

No nos quedamos para cenar porque teníamos que estar en casa temprano. Como se dice: hay un tiempo correcto para todo.

We did not stay for dinner since we had to be home early. As they say: there's a right time for everything.

It was as tough as it should have been. Floyd is declined, at the end of his career and moved up to fight at Cotto's weight, fought Cotto's fight, and won 8+ rounds. 43-0 the best won. - sinsonte, May 6, 2012
