May 3rd was the 477 anniversary of the founding of La Paz by Hernán Cortéz in 1535. There was a re-enactment that evening on the beach in front of the Malecon. I think (but I am not sure) that this was the first place that he came ashore in Baja California. So Happy Birthday La Paz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a lot of modern-day confusion over the spelling of Hernán´s family name. Apparently, the spelling he used was "Cortés." In any case if it is spelled with a Z ending, then no tilde is required and .................................................. - 005faa61, May 6, 2012
