hey guys ' could you please tell me that while conjugating PENSAR and SENTAR why do we add 'i'. And we add thats ok but then why not we make a change for nosotros/as and vosotros/as? we conjugate the word pensar like this- pienso, piensas, piensa, pensamos, pensáis, piensan, my question is why do we not conjugate it like an 'AR' verb and why dont we add an 'i' in nosotros and vosotros form? Guys please help me. graciassmile

Hola Zayesha! We apprciate your question, but please use a capital to begin your sentence. Thanks - rac1, May 4, 2012
I wanted to commend you for your improving posts! Your doing great! - bandit51jd, May 4, 2012
As Rac1 mentions the beginning word in English is always capitalized and as I mentioned to Brady, the use of capitals is yelling and screaming. Use bold or itlaics is fine for emphasis. Muchas gracias! - bandit51jd, May 4, 2012
Thanks Bandit and Rac . I will surely try to improve my writing skills. By the way sorry:) - ZAYESHA, May 5, 2012

As Brady is saying, the use of the stem changers is to help with the sound.

Also in Spanish, the ¨y¨ for "and" becomes an ¨e¨ when words beginning with an "i"are used.

For example: My friend is famous and intelligent.

Mi amigo es famoso e inteligente.

This change is also for sound. So it's not just verbs, but also adjectives. Spanish is known as a very rhythmic language.

Hopefully this helps some! smile

Pensar (E-IE)

Sentar (E-IE)

Tener (E-IE) -go verb

Sentir (E-IE)

These are a few (e-ie) stem changing verbs that I can think of, they change in the stem (part of the verb excluding the -ar, -er, -ir ending) to make the pronunciation more natural sounding.

For example, take sentar for example.

Usualmente, mi papa se sienta en esa silla. (se see-ehnta) This sounds more natural than:

Usualmente, mi papa se senta en esa silla. (now se senta sounds more like sesenta *which means 60)
