"Por lo tanto, es mejor que la edad mínima para consumir el alcohol es veintiuno porque permite más tiempo para el cerebro a desarrollar completamente"

This was on an essay of mine and my teacher circled the word "es" and wrote "verb tense," meaning that I have the wrong tense. I can't think of what the correct tense would be though. Any suggestions?

I think the problem is that when you use the expression "es mejor que..." you need to use the subjunctive. So in this case, the sentence should read:

"Por lo tanto, es mejor que la edad mínima para consumir el alcohol sea veintiuno porque permite más tiempo para el cerebro a desarrollar completamente"

I would also change the end for "porque le da mas tiempo al cerebro para desarrollarse". Yours sounds odd. - 00d312f5, Apr 30, 2012
Okay, that makes sense! Thanks for the help! - PoppyPatch, Apr 30, 2012
