Do you know when to use 'de que' instead of just 'que' - here's a lesson that I hope will help you to figure it out smile

De que or just que - how do you know which one fits?

She couldn't sleep for the pain. -> No pudo dormir a causa del dolor.

Is this possession? (cause of)

And is it also linking two nouns, sleep and pain?

And how about - Me alegro de que ella sea tu novia. je je smile - Kiwi_Girl

I am happy that she's your girlfriend.

Que is the conjunction

...that she's your girlfriend = subordinate clause with "que" as the conjunction

the use of "de" is needed for possession

You're over there laughing at me aren't you, Kiwi! smile Am I close?

Not at all! Great translation but the 'de' is there because of alegrarse 'de' ;) - Kiwi-Girl, May 1, 2012
I only have done the first part, I'm not into the "verbs that require "de"! Alegrarse isn't in the list! No fair! :) - bandit51jd, May 1, 2012

La chica que puedes ver es mi novia.

The girl (that) you can see is my girlfriend.

La chica = subject

es = verb

La chica es mí novia. = main clause or independent clause

que puedes ver = subordinate clause

que = subordinate conjunction

The subordinate conjunction has to be in front of the subordinate or dependent clause?

Are you following me so far, Kiwi! Man this is hard! But challenging!
