¿soy casado o estoy casado?
I've seen both being used and can't find any kind of definitive explanation. Can anyone explain in which context you would use Soy and which you would use Estar. Google translate gives me "estoy casado" with "soy casado" as an alternative.
Thanks in advance for your help

I have also heard both. To me they have slightly different meanings. Estar casado is your civil state- married.(estado civil) Ser casado refers to identity. I would translate Soy casado to "I am a married man."
Feel free to explain why I am wrong, but to me it makes sense.
You can use both to mean different things. Examples:
Soy casado (I'm married) refers to your marital status when filling out a form or applying for benefits or merely stating your marital status as "no longer single".
Estoy casado implies that your marital status has changed as a result of a a particular event in time. Very seldom will you hear it by itself. I've heard Estoy casado con Maria or desde 2004.
I hope this helps.
Typically you would use "estar" with "casado" because you are talking about a state or condition (just like being alive/dead). Most native speakers tell me that "ser" sounds strange under most contexts (especially in Spain). However, there are some contexts where you would use "ser" with "casado". One example is if another woman was trying to seduce you and you responded by saying "¡Soy casado!", which would translate as "I'm a married man!"
Are you married or single? ¿Eres casado o soltero?
I am married. Soy casado
I am married to Luisa Estoy casado con Luisa
Would you like to be my boyfriend? ¿Te gustaría ser mi novio? I'm sorry. I'm already married. Lo siento. Ya estoy casado.
I guess it might depend on if you are open to other offers. LOL. I think "soy" is probably more correct. Think of it as a career. Soy doctor. Soy casado.
Estoy casado.
I have been taught to use "estar" if you are single , married etc as it can be not a permanent status, however I have seen "ser" if for example you are married/single/widowed and this is unlikely to change.
Soy casado. Deberias usar el vebro ser con la palabra 'casado'.
they're both correct! (soy & estoy) in this situation! but in this sentence you can only use '' estoy'' ! for example: (estoy casado con Marta!)
