To mean

Significar / Querer decir

Cordobesa is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences and since there are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Cordobesa's suggestions.

Usa la palabra en una frase en inglés y añade la traducción al español. Intenta usar la palabra de una manera original y vota por las frases que más te gusten. Cada día una de las frases será elegida la ganadora del juego de la palabra del día.

Las directrices:

  • Escribe solamente frases que tengan, al menos, 5 palabras.
  • No escribas párrafos con 4 frases o más.
  • Haz las correcciones sugeridas por los usuarios y mods.
  • ¡Usa tus propias palabras! (No uses el traductor, ni un libro, ni la letra de una canción.)
  • ¡Disfruta de este juego de inglés!

Mi ejemplo:

To have someone by your side means that you can share all the great moments of life with that person.

Tener a alguien a tu lado significa que puedes compartir todos los grandes momentos de la vida con esa persona.

Many times I know all the words that are being said in Spanish, but I have no idea what they mean when they are put together.

Muchas veces sé todas las palabras que están diciendo en español, pero no tengo ni idea de que quieren decir cuando están poniendo todas juntas.

I often know the words, too, but can't always find the meaning of a sentence. Sometimes there might be one word I don't know, and it throws me off completely! Great picture! It's very cute. - GraceM, Apr 26, 2012

A smile means friendship... or that you just ate a bird.

Una sonrisa significa la amistad... o que acabas de comerte un pájaro.

¿Lo que significa la vida? Tengo que pensar que es la habilidad para aprender, entender, hacer las cosas correctas, y amar a tu prójimo.

What is the meaning of life? I have to think that it is the ability to learn, understand, do the right things, and to love your fellow man.

Say what you mean and mean what you say. This is a good policy to live by.

Di lo que crees , y cree en lo que dices. Esta es una buena política para vivir.

Esto no significa que yo haya roto contigo, sino que las cosas no están andando bien. No te des por aludido.

This doesn't mean that I've broken up with you, but rather that things aren't going well. Don't take it personally.

A veces en la mañana no sé lo que significa el ruido fuerte porque no pienso con claridad tan temprano. Tristemente me doy cuenta de que es mi despertador.

Sometimes, in the morning, I don't know what the loud noise means because I don't think clearly so early. Sadly, I realize that it's my alarm clock.

Muy bien, Grace. Yo pondría "significa" antes: "No sé lo que significa el ruido..." para que suene un poquito más natural :) "cuenta de que es" - Cordobesa, Apr 26, 2012

Creo que la conferencia fue muy interesante pero no entendí exactamente lo que quiso decir el profesor tan erudito con sus palabras largas que, para nosotros, no significaban nada.

I think the lecture was very interesting but I didn't really understand what the learned professor meant with his long words, which to us, meant nothing.

Our mean Statistics teacher gave us the wrong meaning of "mean" on purpose.

Nuestro vil profesor de estadística nos dio el significado errado de "media" a propósito.
