Please help me on how to say 47 in spanish and history behind spanish numbers

47 in Spanish is "Cuarenta y siete"

To form numbers in after thirty, add the name of the ten (e.g. "Cuarenta=forty", "Treinta=thirty") + "y" (and) + the units (cuatro, seis, uno, nueve, etc.)

Example: 57= Cincuenta (50) + y + siete (7)....cincuenta y siete

84= Ochenta y cuatro

62= Sesenta y dos

As to the history of Spanish numbers, I am not entirely sure how I got their names, but I do know that they are related to the numbers in Latin, for example the word "cien" (100) is related to the Latin word for one hundred; "cent"

Daburga, everybody needs to count. That's really the history of numbers. In France they have problems beyond 20, their 98 is fourtimestwenty + 18, however the Spanish have no such problems and I think cuarenta y siete, 47 will be well understood.
