To become more intelligent...

Question

I am trying to say "to be a scientist you must be very clever and hard working, so I have to work hard to become more clever"

This is about as much as I have managed, but I am sure it's not right:

Para ser una cientifica hay que ser muy inteligente y trabajador, entonces tengo que trabajo arduo hacerse más listo.

I am trying to say "To be a scientist you must be very clever and hard working, so I have to work hard to become more clever".

I wasn't sure if the use of "you" and "I" are consistent? I'm asking for the following reason.

With the adjectives that describe "you", the masculine ending is perfect because we the reader take "you" to be masculine. It's like the default, we are allowed to assume masculine. (This is correct, right forum?)

With the adjectives describing "I", because you are a female, the feminine endings are used. (You are female, right)
