In México you uses "¿te mordiste la lengua?" (always as a question) when someone has a bad opinion or criticism about a person, topic or ideology etc.
But that person has the same bad qualities that is criticizing.
Example 1:
Girl A: Rebeca is so hypocrite and a liar. Yesterday I saw her at the movie theater with a man that it isn't her boyfriend.
Girl B: Didn't you bit your tongue darling? I saw you last weekend in the neighboring city, you were walking, taken by the hands with another man that isn't your husband.
Example 2:
Man1: Only we both will watch the game. Carlos is sick and he is at the hospital. He is very neglected, he does not care his weight and never follow a healty diet, for that reason he get Atherosclerosis. It is that you deserve when you dont care for your health.
Man2: Didn't you bit your tongue dude? You have just ordered 2 pizzas to eat while we watching the game and also 12 pieces of fried chicken and beer.
Conclusion:
¿Te mordiste la lengua? is a sarcastic way to say "dont be an hypocrite"
Maybe it's literal, lol. You bit your tongue? Bet that hurts.
I think it's somewhat like "You bit your tongue, dude." Maybe it means that they killed the joke or ruined it. haha I'd love to see what other people say. ![]()
