There are a few cases where either por or para can be used and the nuance is hardly noticible, such as "Te quiero para / por siempre."

In the case of "I live for my sons and spouse," however, context more than nuance decides which of the two words should be used, ie: If the woman loves her family, they are her main focus in life, she would feel lost without them, then por should be used - "vivo por mis hijos y mi esposo."

If she feels that she is only there to take care of the kids and husband, cooking, cleaning, etc, then para would be appropriate. In this case, she is showing her only reason for living.

And to make it a little more confusing, if she has a great relationship with her family, she might use para if the context were known, but por would be more common and proper.
