I dont know how to study to save my life for anything.
How do you study?
Whats your way of studying and highlighting key points in the book?
This goes for any subject. English, math, science.....
How do you take notes in class?
I feel very frustrated trying to learn on my own!

I rewrite things. For example, in biology, I used to take extensive notes, then simply rewrite them (including drawing diagrams). The process of writing the same information over helped me retain it. If the class or subject doesn't facilitate note-taking, start writing out passages or key facts from the book (for me, highlighting doesn't do the trick, it's the act of writing/rewriting or typing/retyping that helps).
In computer science, some of my instructors allowed or encouraged crib sheets (cheat sheets). The process of fitting information on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper helped me study so much that I didn't have to check the sheet during the test.
The important thing is to understand what you write down. Everyone has a different way of processing information, so this might not work for you. Nevertheless, good luck in finding a method that works!
The only sure way I've ever known is to get all your resources (books, notes, etc), sit down in a very quiet place with NO distractions (leave your computer/phone behind) and commit lots of time to it. Some people can study in groups or with distractions, but not me. Especially when lots of reading might be required. You can take breaks every half hour or so, but only as a reward to actually studying. Good luck, amigo!
highlight key terms and/or words you don't know and put them on flashcards and study them or you can speak spanish with a friend, hearing the language is a way of learning how the words sound and it helps me a lot -hope this helps
I studied in the company of friends, many times you can share doubts and answers to learn. But you must to be serious not PS3, jokes, XBOX, facebook (In the good old times it was N64, PS2, Sega Dreamcast, jokes, ICQ), etc, only focus in the studying.
Sometimes we can do overkill in studying. Give yourself a chance and relax. It takes time to learn. Avoid putting expectations on yourself. Take things in bite size pieces. Maybe do only 1/2 hour to 1 hour a day on a lesson. Review it that day as often as you like, but in little pockets of time. Allow yourself to make mistakes, but look at them as opportunities to learn. Go slow and easy. If you push yourself too hard, it can get overwhelming and you may be more inclined to give up. Look at your topic with a desire to understand and put it together like building blocks. Encourage yourself regardless if you do well or not. Sometimes we can be our own inhibitors because we want to learn but think/feel we can't. I have heard repeatedly that we are all capable of learning languages. Study the language like you would study a piece of art. (I look forward to the day when I can say this in español.)
