sereno (seh-rreh'-noh)

adjective ( calm, serene, peaceful, still, tranquil; clear, cloudless )

Caefuego is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Please correct your posts according to Caefuego's suggestions.

Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. Then the Word of the Day winner will be chosen!

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Have fun experimenting with Spanish.

Examples:

1. Incluso ahora en vista de gran dificultad, está sereno.

Even now in the face of great difficulty, he is calm.

2. Me encanta ir a paseo por las noches serenas para ver las estrellas.

I love to go for a walk on clear nights to look at the stars.

Gracias a Cae:

En nuestra vida cotidiana, tan ajetreada, quisiera escapar al menos por una noche serena en medio de la nada, donde todos los problemas parecen absolutamente insignificantes.

In our busy everyday life, I want to escape for at least one quiet night amidst nowhere, where all the problems seem absolutely insignificant.

Some kinds of sports may be very dangerous. Especially if the weather is not good. And people must be very calm.

Algunos tipos de deportes pueden ser muy peligrosos. Especialmente si el clima no sea serena. Y la gente debe ser muy tranquila.

En una noche serena con el mar en calma y las estrellas brillando en todo su esplendor, nadie imaginó que una catástrofe estaba muy cerca del RMS Titanic.

enter image description here

On a clear night, with the sea calm, and the gorgeous stars shining, nobody thought that a catastrophe was very close to the RMS Titanic.

A 100 años de la tragedia QEPD las inocentes víctimas.

100 years after the tragedy, RIP for the inocents.

Quisiste ser mariposa, y volar de flor en flor, para posarte en la rosa.

Conoces todo el aroma, en tu vuelo silencioso, majestuoso y sereno, como reina sin corona.

You wanted to be a butterfly, and fly from flower in bloom, to pose you in the pink.

You know all the aroma, in your quiet flight, majestic and serene, as queen without a crown.

Hi dorahelena, if you are talking about "la rosa" you are reffering to the flower not the color. In this case, in english the correct translation for "la rosa" is "the rose" - xtiagox, Apr 17, 2012

The word Sereno though the definition of the word is correct, the word can also be use to explain a climate.

The reason I say this is because in Nicaragua the word is use to refer the chill of the night. I can't speak for any other country since proper Spanish is Spanish, but the dialect of different countries give different definitions to the words and since Ruben Dario was considered the father of castellano o' what would've been the modern Spanish back in the days then I would presume that the state in which the word is use in the definition of Nicaraguans' referring to the chill of the night would be valid.

A sentence which would validate this definition of Sereno would be- Don't go out side after exercising because the sereno (chill of the night) will give you a cold.

Some Spanish speaking individuals might have heard their mom say something like " No, salgas afuera despues de estar ajitado( ajitado-the state of being right after exercising) porque te vas a refriar por el sereno.
