Hold on! Wait a moment!

Hold on! Wait a moment!

In Command Form, what would be the best expression when talking to an annoying cat (as you do) to tell him to "Hold on!" "Wait a moment!" as he dashes out into the garden without you?

I know that "Quieto!" means "stay put!", "don't move!" but would "Wait! (for me)" be "Espera"?

You guys are the best! I shall be using all these expressions on my cat! (And a few others that aren't repeatable, especially when he wakes me up at 2.30 in the morning to play with him!) - lazaruslemming, Apr 18, 2012

Hey, Laz, welcome to the forum.

I'd use:

"¡Espérate!" Wait!

"¡Quédate!" Stay!

Thanks Criistian and Bethany! I thought it was! Right, where's that cat? I've got something to say to it!

Para el carro! (es una forma informal de decir a alguien que espero, que no continue con lo que está haciendo)

No matter what you say, you will have better luck convincing a dog to wait than a cat - regardless of his size
