I work at a children's store. I'm looking to broaden my vocabulary when talking with customers.

I'm not sure how to say the following phrases: "If you buy one, you get one (of equal or lesser value) free." "In the back are our sale items" "Who is your favorite character?" "How may I help you?" "Do you have an ID with your Credit Card?" "Please sign, and then press done." "Would you like one bag or two?"

Clarification: Listo? - Is this a proper way to say "Ready?" at the register (my coworker uses it) Recibo de regalo-- I use this to say 'gift receipt' . Is this correct? This isn't common in many stores nor is it common in many countries. Help on maybe explaining what a gift receipt is?

I am open to any suggestions as far as phrases and other vocabulary I may need.

1) Cuando compra uno, le regalamos otro, si vale lo mismo o menos.

(word for word translation when you buy one, we gift you another, if it is valued at the same or less)

2) Al fondo de las ventas.

3) ¿cual es su personaje favorito?

4) ¿como lo/la/los puedo ayudar? (lo for single male, la for single female, los for more than 1 person)

5) ¿tiene identificación (para comparar) con la tarjeta de credito? [to compare]

6) Por favor, firme y aprete "done" (if the button they need to press says done, then I would simply use that word. If they are unsure where to press, you can refer to it by colour, if it is different - eg. el botón verde - the green button)

7) ¿quiere una o dos bolsas? (alternatively you can simply offer:

  • how many bags would you like? - ¿cuantas bolsas quiere?

or

  • would you like a bag? ¿quiere una bolsa?

  • another one? ¿otra mas? (or simply another? ¿otra?)

Clarification

You can say listo or pronto. just remember, if you are addressing a female end it with a (¿lista? o ¿pronta?)

I understand your Recibo de regalo to be exactly that, gift receipt... then again, not sure if it would change depending on what a gift receipt is used for.

Hope this helps!
let me know if something doesn't make sense or you require further clarification good luck!

ps I think it's great you are trying to communicate and therefore make it a more pleasant shopping experience! smile

"If you buy one, you get one (of equal or lesser value) free."

En la compra de uno le regalamos otro del mismo precio o más barato.

"In the back are our sale items"

Al fondo están nuestras ofertas.

"Who is your favorite character?"

¿Quién es tu personaje favorito?

"How may I help you?"

¿En qué puedo ayudarlo (ayudarla, ayudarlos)?

"Do you have an ID with your Credit Card?"

¿Tiene alguna identificación?

"Please sign, and then press done."

Por favor, oprima "done" después de firmar

"Would you like one bag or two?"

¿Quiere una bolsa o dos?

Hola Yamileth,

Please don't take this in a bad way, but it seems like if most of the sentences can be easily translated using the dictionary of SpanishDict or even Google Translator, I would like to see you attemp first in order to help you to improve with your vocabulary in Spanish, maybe you already know that it is a rule here in SD to make an attemp first.

After that, I am sure anybody would be pleased of helping you with the corrections if needed.

Even though, I would like to help you with something which maybe cannot be easily translated since it is a kind of noun:

Gift receipt: Certificado de regalo.

Sorry - Un cetificado de regalo is a gift certificate and not a gift receipt. - francobollo, Apr 16, 2012

I'd say:

Si compra un artículo el otro le sale gratis (de igual o menor precio).

Los artículos en rebaja están en la parte de atrás (de la tienda).

¿Cuál es su personaje favorito?

¿Le puedo ayudar?

¿Tiene una identificación y su tarjeta de crédito?

Por favor firme y luego presione el botón DONE

¿Le gustaría una bolsa o dos?

Ready -- ¿Está listo(lista) para pagar?

Recibo sin precio (receipt without a price)
