Arenal is one of the most well-known volcanoes in Costa Rica and there are some nice hot springs there. Also worth seeing if you like to hike are the La Fortuna waterfalls. There is a jeep, boat, jeep tour from Arenal to The Cloud Canopy and the ziplining there is wonderful. The beach is always great but watch the undercurrents as they can be tricky. The black sand beach at Playa Hermosa is lovely. There are so many places to enjoy there. La Paz Peace Garden is lovely and has beautiful waterfalls (although an earthquake a few years ago took out some of the waterfalls. The Butterfly Gardens are stunning.

A coffee tour is usually very nice too within an hour of San Jose and there are quite a few really lovely volcano tours close to San Jose.

I lived there for about 6 mos. and it really is a very nice place to go. I took buses to most of the places I went there. - katydew, Apr 15, 2012
I forgot about the natural wood factory in San Jose... do you know that there is such a thing as purple wood and it is in its natural color? - katydew, Apr 15, 2012

Arenal is a must see. I spent three weeks in Costa Rica in 2002 and visited five distinct areas. Four really stood out. Arenal (it spits out hot rocks at night. Way cool. Tamarindo (there is a small one guest place called TreeTops. Talk about living the life of the rich and famous for about $150 a day. You will be the only guest. Corcovado National Park, a beautiful bay with lots of cool places to explore and stay. And finally a place called Rara Avis, this is high in the rain forest. Only access is by tractor drawn wagon or walking (it is an extremely long walk. Here you are so far removed from civilization it is easy to imagine it a primal forest. Don't spend more than a day in San Jose as time is precious and there are so many jewels to see in this country.

Oh, and if you like wild life you are in for a treat: sloths, iguanas, crocodiles, racoons, etc. And birds you only every see on TV or in books.

Welcome to the forum, johnny! I see you enjoy windsuring and the beach! I've never tried windsurfing or bungee jumping. - bandit51jd, Apr 15, 2012
We try hard here for proper punctuation because our site is for English learners, too. - bandit51jd, Apr 15, 2012
